Moving Space, 2018
‘Home’ is a place we always look forward to after work as we love its warmth, comfort and safety. This is very similar with animals and its nests as they come back to them after hunting food for their babies, hide from danger or for hibernation. ‘Home’ is a series that demonstrate animal structures and its purposes. I wanted to focus on this topic as I wanted to explore ways of working with natural materials (as well as some man-made objects) and see how the viewers and animals would interact with them. The structures that I have created in each piece were considered so that the animals could feel safe and warm. Some are closed so that it helps them hide themselves or the eggs, some are open so that they can detect their surroundings and one of the pieces contain bells so that they are able to detect their predators through sound. Nonetheless, my arrangements are schematic so that it challenges the viewers to be curious, to look inside, to look around and detect the ideas behind the pieces.

I took the exploration further by taking the pieces outside and see if the animals (including insects) will interact with my work or not. Will they use them as their shelter? Will they use the materials to create their own nests? Will they use it for hunting purposes? Or will the plants invade the nests instead?
